In the 1998 election voters in 5 states and the District of Colombia approved measures to legalize the use of medical marijuana. Medical marijuana initiatives have passed every time that they were on ballots, and always by clear majorities. Imagine if voters in all 50 states were able to vote on this issue...and if politicians actually heeded the calls of their constituents. Bob Barr (R) GA, Bill McCollum (R) FL, and Speaker Dennis Hastert (R) IL are among the most aggressive drug warriors in Congress. Efficacy does not endorse either the Democrats or the Republicans, as both parties deny the corruption of our legal system that is perpetrated under the banner of "fighting drugs". Third party candidates, and education of the public, may be our only hope.
